Barrett’s Esophagus

Barrett’s Esophagus is a complication of GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). The esophagus carries food from the mouth to the stomach. In Barrett’s Esophagus, the lining of the esophagus begins to resemble the lining of the intestine. Patients with Barrett’s Esophagus usually have symptoms related to GERD and are at greater risk of developing esophageal adenocarcinoma, a rare cancer of the esophagus.
