A new year means a healthier you, right? Here at Concorde Gastroenterology, we encourage all of our patients to make resolutions that will not only make them feel good about their health, but that will also make their health better in the long run. If you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, are prone to polyps, have Crohn’s disease, or have any other issues with your gastrointestinal health, then this article is for you. By making some small changes, you can hopefully see big results in the long run.
Eat More Fiber
Eating a well-balanced diet is one of the best things that you can do for your heart, your waistline, and yes, your gastrointestinal health. When choosing foods to eat, look for food that contains a lot of fiber in it. For instance, foods like bananas, oranges, mangoes, kale, bread, and legumes are really high in fiber which will help to regulate your system. When you eat fiber rich foods on a regular basis, you can help to alleviate a lot of gastrointestinal issues which will make you live a more comfortable life.
Exercise isn’t just going to help you get to your dream weight, but it’s also going to help you with gastrointestinal issues. Regular exercise helps your digestive tract function properly so that everything flows through your system smoothly.
Watch the Fat
Greasy foods like cheeseburgers and french fries may sound like your idea of the perfect meal, but your gut probably disagrees. Foods that are high in saturated fats are going to irritate your digestive tract. Make it a resolution of yours to watch all of the fat that you are eating. Rather than eating a lot of things like red meat, consider switching to lean meat like turkey or chicken which will still give you protein but without the harmful fat.
