Obesity Linked To More and More Cancers

You’ve heard of BMI or body mass index which is determined by your weight and height. BMI is a tool that will place you in a category of underweight, normal weight, overweight and obese. An overweight BMI is between 25-30 and a BMI over 30 would place you in the obese category. Obesity is linked to many different cancer diagnoses in women including breast and endometrial cancer. New research shows that the longer amount of time someone is obese greatly increases their risk of obesity related cancers.

Obesity is not the only cancer risk factor typically involved. Often when you are overweight or obese you lead a sedentary lifestyle, may be diabetic and may have poor nutrition all of which increase your risk for some cancers. It is important to make lifestyle changes and implement a weight loss solution that is long term and promotes a healthy lifestyle for good. Losing weight and keeping it off is a great way to decrease your cancer risk.

Research shows that just exercising or just eating healthy may not be enough to help you move from an obese BMI to a healthy BMI. You should do them both. Eating healthy doesn’t mean that you have to give up all indulgences but maybe just enjoy them more sparingly and in conjunction with an all around healthier diet. Exercise regimens can be scary but there truly is something for everyone. From high powered aerobics to calming yoga it is possible to find a workout that is possible for your abilities and that you might just enjoy. Making these changes will help get you to a healthier weight and decrease your risk of obesity related cancers.
