When Is A Bloated Belly Something To Be Concerned About?
- Posted on: Feb 25 2016
Belly bloating can be an early symptom of cancer including colon, pancreatic, liver, uterine and ovarian cancers. If you are experiencing bloating along with unintentional weight loss, nausea, fullness when eating or abdominal pain you should seek medical evaluation by your physician. Although these symptoms may seem easy to ignore or treat with over-the-counter medications, it may be your body giving you signals that something is wrong.
Cancer is not the only serious potential cause of belly bloating. The cause could be a more serious gastrointestinal disease such as Crohn’s, diverticulitis or ascites or gynecological problems like pelvic inflammatory disease. All of these conditions are serious and require physician evaluation and possible testing to diagnose what’s wrong and to discuss treatment options. Signs for concern include fever, blood in your stool or vaginal bleeding and consistent weight gain as fluid build-up increases. Talk with your doctor to discuss your symptoms and concerns if you are experiencing persistent belly bloating along with other complications.
